Improve Connectivity, Security and Reliability with E-Line

May 23, 2012

The concept of a virtualized enterprise is taking hold across industries. Cloud applications, software as a service (SaaS), centralized data centers and communications between multiple locations have transformed the way we work and do business.

But for many organizations, performing all these functions across the public Internet is only part of the Cloud solution. Many critical business applications require levels of network performance that can only be supported by Ethernet or IP-VPN.

E-Line: What is it?
E-Line services can be leveraged to connect two or more customer locations within a metropolitan area or between markets using the tw telecom national business Ethernet platform. This network infrastructure is dedicated solely to Layer 2 services and traffic, which means that the E-Line traffic is kept separate from the IP core and all Layer 3 (public Internet) data services.

"Business Ethernet combines the best of both the Layer 1 transport worlds and the Layer 3 data/IP worlds," explains Brooke James Mouland, product manager for tw telecom'sEthernet Product Suite. "E-Line is a more private, reliable connection to our customers' Cloud resources."

Mouland adds, "In the early stages of Cloud deployment, many applications needed only to jump on the Internet . Now, you're competing for the same bandwidth resources with all of that Internet traffic, which includes Facebook, Netflix usage, and other personal and business applications. If you jump on a private Layer 2 service, you're bypassing all that with a more direct connection to your critical applications within the data centers. Customers have more predictable and secure performance for their network and applications, which delivers a better overall customer experience.”

As more businesses opt for Cloud computing solutions, tw telecom'smanaged business Ethernet and E-Line products make sure that customers’ connections are always up and running productively — taking a major worry (and expense) off customers’ minds.
